Add/change Images/icon to Drives icon in Windows

Suppose you use a drive that contains all songs by your favorite singer. Would it not be great if instead of the common drive icon, you could add the singer's image or musical icon as the drive icon of this drive?

It is relatively easy to add/change Images/icon to Drives icon using a simple autorun.inf trick just as easily as you can change your Desktop's Drives icon.

Autorun.inf is a system file that is used to customize the appearance and behavior in Windows. We can use this ability of autorun.inf files to add/change Images/icon to Drives icon just by adding a few lines of code.

Steps for adding/change Images/icon to Drives icon

  1. First, you chose your desired icon (Download icon or create your icon by using icon creator software) and place this icon in the drive which you want your personalized icon.
  2. Open Notepad.
  3. Copy and paste the following code:-

    [autorun]
    icon="icon-name.ico"

  4. You need to slightly modify this code on Windows (just replace icon-name to your icon name).
  5. Save the file as autorun.inf
  6. Place this file in the drive which you want your personalized icon.

  8. You might need to log off and log back on for the changes to take effect.

You can hide this icon & autorun.inf file if you feel that it is something that should not be visible in your drive.
